Eleven days across North East India's most breathtaking stops — raw Himalayan adventure, ancient monasteries, and living forests, without the logistics headache.
North East India sits at the edge of the subcontinent — where the Himalayas meet living forests, Buddhist monasteries perch above the clouds, and the road to Bum La Pass at 15,200ft is one of the most scenic drives on the planet. In Meghalaya's villages, locals sell produce roadside with no shopkeeper present — you leave the money in a box and walk away. That's the North East.
Land in Guwahati, meet your trip lead, and by 10AM you're heading north-east into Arunachal. The next 8 hours are the drive itself — tea estates, river valleys, the Bhutan border shimmering in the distance. Sleep in Dirang, a quiet valley town at the edge of the world.
Winding Himalayan roads, prayer flags, hidden valleys, and the first glimpse of the monastery sitting above the clouds. A complimentary morning explore of Dirang is included before you set off.
If the weather opens up: Bum La Pass, where the road touches the India-China border at 15,200ft. If not: Madhuri Lake's calm waters and pine forests. Either way, Tawang at its rawest.
Morning prayers and golden roofs at Tawang Monastery, the Giant Buddha Statue watching over the valley, then the frozen beauty of Sela Pass.
A full day's drive back down through Assam. By evening you're deep inside Kaziranga National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the world's largest population of one-horned rhinos.
Morning's free in Kaziranga (optional jeep safari), then the drive to Shillong. By evening — Police Bazaar, café hopping, and sunset at the Shillong Golf Course, one of the prettiest in Asia.
The alarm rings at 3:30AM — worth it once you're standing above a sea of clouds at Nongjrong. Then Dawki's glass-clear Umngot River, Mawlynnong (Asia's cleanest village) and its living root bridge, and kayaking at Shnongpdeng.
Laitlum Canyons at 11:30AM — one of Meghalaya's most jaw-dropping gorges. By afternoon, Cherrapunji (Sohra): Seven Sister Falls, Nohkalikai Falls, and Mausmai Caves.
The legendary Nongriat Double Decker Living Root Bridge — grown from Ficus tree roots over 500 years — and the hidden Wei Sawdong Falls. A full rainforest trek day.
The drive back to where it all started, with time to replay every moment. Fancy Bazaar for last-minute shopping, then a farewell dinner with the whole group at one table.
Slow breakfast, group photo, and departure. Your trip lead sees off every flight.

"I've done Ladakh, Spiti, Coorg but nothing prepared me for this. Standing at Bumla Pass at 15,200ft with China literally on the other side, then kayaking in water so clear it looked fake at Shnongpdeng."
"I was nervous about Northeast India — people kept saying it's complicated. Turns out it's only complicated if you go alone. The 4AM sunrise at Nongjrong was worth the entire trip fare."
"Group of 14 people, all different backgrounds and fitness levels — somehow Retriever Routes made every single person happy. We're already planning the next one."
